Crown Fortress

The fortification system is unique in the Czech Republic and its origin dates back to the 18th century. The Olomouc Fortress consisted of a total of twenty fortresses and other military facilities, which can now be walked along a 30 km long nature trail, which is accessible to both pedestrians and cyclists.

Interesting facts Crown Fortress

From the plan view, it is a ring 30 km long, connected by forts. Due to the conclusion of the Prussian-Austrian peace, the Olomouc fortress was completely abolished and the part with the bastions was gradually dismantled. Not all of them have survived to the present day. Some of them are in the hands of private owners and enthusiasts who are trying to restore and make them accessible. The journey through the fortresses of the Olomouc fortress is intended to acquaint the general public with the fortress system of the city of Olomouc, which is a unique work in our country. The journey can be completed "online" with the help of GPS navigation and satellites. Along the way, there are brief information boards with a QR code, thanks to which it is possible to load the internet presentation and information about each of the places.

If you decide for a bike trip around the fortresses, you can complete the entire route in a day, which is a great opportunity to create a complete idea of ​​the whole work.
