Interesting facts Harcov Reservoir

Another interesting fact is that it was built at the same time as the Les Království dam, so it looks like it was her sister. It must be said that the older sister, because the dam began to be built in 1902 and was completed in 1904, ie 16 years before the above-mentioned dam.

The dam is 20.5 meters high and 157 meters long. The depth of the dam reaches a maximum of 13 meters under water. Today, the dam is used for recreation and relaxation, but was originally built to protect the city from floods. In addition, the dam was also a reservoir of water for local industry.

The dam was named after the stream that feeds it. Around the dam you can find rare animals such as newts and toads. The spotted woodpecker, hedgehog and flycatcher also live here. The dam is also full of fish and literally encourages fishing.

The dam was created at the instigation of a huge flood (1897), when the water significantly damaged important factory buildings, such as Liebeg's factory, and therefore industrialists and other personalities worked to build a dam in the local valley. The dam was built by the best dam of the time - Otto Intze from Aachen and it was the first valley reservoir in Bohemia. To this day, it is in absolutely perfect condition.
