Ausflüge Vysočina
Vysočina, a region located on the border of Bohemia and Moravia, offers a wide range of interesting places. Here you will find dozens of castles and chateaux, village monument reserves and open-air museums, historic towns with arcades and a medieval underground, as well as Jewish monuments.
Many visitors are attracted by the Vysočina region for its natural wealth. The Bohemian-Moravian Highlands, which cover the entire region, are interwoven with a dense network of cycle paths, hiking trails and, in winter, cross-country skiing trails. Fans of hiking can climb the peaks of Javořice, Devět skal and Křemešník or walk nature trails in the local protected landscape areas - Žďárské vrchy and their spruce forests, meadows and peat bogs or Železná Hora with a rocky valley of the river Doubrava, memorable trees and deep gorges. The unique feature is the Hroznětín meadow dotted with spring "carpet" of snowflakes and the Žákova hora nature reserve with the character of a forest.
Numerous lookout towers - Oslednice on the outskirts of Telč, Babylon, one of the oldest and most beautiful lookout towers in the Czech Republic or other lookout towers with charming names such as Mařenka, Rosička, Pípalka and Rubačka offer nice views of the region. You can enjoy natural swimming on the Velké Dářko pond, on the Seč dam or at the Trnávka reservoir.
You can also take a trip to one of the local castles - the fairytale Pernštejn, Kámen, Ledeč nad Sázavou or Želiv or Trček's Castle. You can also choose from many castles, such as Jaroměřice nad Rokytnou alias Moravian Versailles, the rare Gothic-Renaissance chateau Police, Žirovnice with a diverse exhibition, Polná and Maleč. You can also find beautiful castles in the towns of Telč, Náměšť nad Oslavou and Velké Meziříčí. Tips for a trip must include the open-air museum on Veselý kopec.
The UNESCO World Heritage Site includes the historic center of Telč, the Jewish Quarter and the Christian Basilica of St. Prokop in Třebíč and also the pilgrimage Church of Jan Nepomucký on Zelená Hora.
And where in the Highlands with children? Small excursionists will enjoy the Jihlava ZOO, the western town of Šiklův mlýn, the haunted Draxmoor chateau, the Fábula family amusement park, the Jihlava aquapark Water Paradise and, last but not least, the fun Museum of Records and Curiosities in Pelhřimov.
