Interesting facts Punkva springs

Typical plants and animals
The Punkva Spring Reserve also includes plants and animals. A large number of tree species are mainly represented by spruces, firs, yews, maples and ash trees. There are rare species of plants, such as Matthiol's roundworm, European flatworm, perennial moonworm or deer tongue. Some species of orchids are also represented here. From the protected animals you can see various species of sandpipers, water cinquefoils, you can see the kingfisher, in the caves you can see horseshoe bats or bats.

Millions of booking visitors
The empty gutter is the place where the river Punkva rises to the surface. Other stalactite caves and domes were discovered from the originally small cave. The water level was artificially reduced by about 6 m, water navigation was technically solved and this road was opened to the public. Karst underground phenomena as well as surface and archeological finds in caves are protected.

Tourism is not just a benefit
Intensive tourism is not very good for this area. The caves and their surroundings are overloaded with tourism, so other protective measures had to be taken, such as a ban on motor transport in the area of the canyons of Suchý and Pustý Žleb, tourist transport to Punkve Caves is organized and strict limits are set for visitors caves. The ruins of Blansek Castle and the only cave castle so far discovered in our country - the Knight's Cave - are also attractive for tourists in the reservation.
