Interesting facts Water mill in Slup

The mill building is one of the most important of its kind in the whole Czech Republic. It is a large mill with four water wheels and a drive, the origin of which was connected with the development of an extensive Krhovice-Jaroslavice drive, which served as a source of drive for four mills, in addition to Slup also to Neslovice, Nicmanice and Oleksovičky. He also fed a system of ponds in the area.

The first mention of the miller in Slup comes from a document from 1512. In the 16th and 18th centuries it was one of the largest mills in Moravia. The mill building itself was originally probably Gothic, but in the first quarter of the 17th century it was radically rebuilt in the late Renaissance style. The mill has preserved this appearance to this day and is a beautiful example of Renaissance utilitarian architecture.

In the residential parts of the building there are exhibitions showing the development of milling from prehistory to the 20th century, containing valuable papers and documents. There are four complete production units in the mill, which are demonstrated in operation. They document various techniques of grinding grain - Czech (Old Bohemian) composition with a simple grinding technique, kašnik, which is a modified Czech composition adapted for grinding millet, American mill composition and cylindrical or periodic mill composition, which is the basis of automatic mill work.

Every September, the Bread Festival, a meeting of folk crafts and folklore ensembles are held in front of the mill. It is always a great glory that lives the whole village and its surroundings.
