Interesting facts Castle Libštejn

In historical sources, you would learn that Oldřich Tista from Hedčany took care of the foundation during the 14th century. The estate passed to his son Oldřich, who sold it to Albrecht of Kolovrat. The Hussite wars tested the unfavorable position of the castle between the higher hills. The Hussites launched a siege and easily used their slingshots and similar contemporary cannons to hit their targets. The enemies around the castle could not be driven away other than by an agreement on a military alliance with the Hussites. In case of resistance, everyone present at the castle would starve.

Due to bad experience with the castle defense, it was improved in the second half of the 15th century by means of an advanced bastion with a moat and embankments, in the following century another bastion was created. The siege never took place in the future, but since the middle of the 16th century, the owners no longer live in Libštejn Castle and it begins to fall into disrepair. Unfortunately, the Thirty Years' War brought him burned by Swedish troops. In the following period, the castle became a source of stone for the construction of several houses in the surrounding villages.

Despite many years of dismantling the castle, you can look forward to a tour of several parts that have survived to the present day. Above all, it is a high prismatic tower, the remains of residential buildings, two palaces, two advanced towers and a second smaller tower. In addition, when taking a trip to Libštejn Castle, you will have a wonderful view of the wooded hills and the landscape around the river. Who knows, you may be able to see a ghost that is said to haunt and guard a great treasure here.
