Arboretum Šmelcovna Boskovice

At the eastern edge of the town of Boskovice, in the valley notch of the Bělá River and at the western edge of the Drahanská Highlands, we find the Šmelcovna Arboretum. It is a large garden with ornamental and fruit trees, located at an altitude of 375 - 425 m above sea level. The area is part of an important landscape element Dva dvory - Šmelcovna, which is a well-known and registered Geographical Institute of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Brno and the town of Boskovice.

The arboretum covers an area of ​​almost 9 hectares, it is a private area that is open to the public, a natural, educational and resting place, divided into areas with natural forest and flowery meadows and areas that are purposefully planted with several thousand ornamental cultivars. plants. Here you will find coniferous and deciduous trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses, perennials and many other plants.

There is also a large garden sales center and a zoo with dwarf farm animals on site.

The individual sections in the arboretum are connected by almost 3 km of paths and footpaths, lined with resting places, trailers to European tree-lined trees and fairy-tale creatures.

New plantings of Japanese and palm-leaved maples, magnolias and sakura certainly deserve attention.
