Trips Central Bohemia

Natural beauties, various castles and chateaux, royal towns, open-air museums and industrial monuments ... there are countless possibilities for a trip in Central Bohemia.

It is here that historically significant castles such as Karlštejn, Kokořín, Kost, the mysterious Houska, Bezděz, Žebrák, Točník, Český Šternberk and Okoř stand. The smaller ruins of Krakovec, Žebrák, Valečov, Vrškamýk and Týřov are also worth a visit. Among the numerous castles are Loučeň with a garden labyrinth, the romantic Žleby residence, the Empire-style Kačina, the Baroque Veltrusy, Liblice and Jemniště, the Rococo Dobříš, the Renaissance Nelahozeves and the Průhonice chateau surrounded by an extensive park.

The chateau also dominates the historical centers of towns such as Mělník, Březnice, Mnichovo Hradiště, Brandýs n. Labem, Mníšek pod Brdy, etc. Kutná Hora with a unique ossuary and the Church of St. Barbory. Tips for the trip also include other valuable church buildings: the Baroque monastery Svatá Hora near the town of Příbram, Sázavský klášter and Svatý Jan pod Skalou - an important place of pilgrimage with a rock church and a healing spring, set in amazing scenery.

You will discover beautiful nature in the protected landscape areas Kokořínsko (sandstone rocks, ravines and lakes), Brdy (untouched landscape of the former military area) and Křivoklátsko (valuable deciduous forests). Steep slopes around the Vltava (Drbákov - Albertovy skály nature reserve, Smetana's lookout, Máj and Solenická podkova) attract to hiking, and you can explore the rolling surroundings of Berounka or Posázaví by bike. Central Bohemia also includes the Bohemian Karst (canyons and limestone formations such as the Koněprusy Caves and the Great America Quarry alias "Český Grand Canyon") and part of the Bohemian Paradise (Příhrazské skály with the Drábské světničky rock castle and the picturesque Plakánek valley). The Slapská and Orlická dams and the natural swimming pool in the Elbe (Lhotka, Mlékojedy, Konětopy or Poděbradské jezero sand pits) offer wonderful swimming.

The most interesting lookout towers in Central Bohemia include Špulka on Březák Hill, Máminka and Děd in the Beroun region, Milada u Vltavy, Čížovka in Český ráj and the lookout tower on Velký Blaník Hill, where knights from the old legend rest.

With children you can enjoy a pleasant day in the family park Mirakulum (wooden castle, water world, rope center and other activities for children), ZOOpark Zájezd or Radonice, action fun with a group of friends in the park Tepfaktor ). The Museum of Folk Architecture in Kouřim, the Mining Museum in Příbram or Mayrau in the Kladno Region and the largest railway museum in Lužná await curious excursionists.
