State Castle Šternberk

If you want to visit a place through which the ancient history of our nation passed, visit the romanticly admired and chanted Šternberk Castle. Its location on a steep rock suggests that it was a medieval mansion for defense. The castle itself and the castle grounds together with the surrounding forest park will attract you with an idyllic atmosphere. It is also one of the few castles owned by the original owner.

The history of the castle begins with the Šternberk family
Members of the old Czech aristocratic Šternberk family founded the castle in the 13th century. Written mentions of the castle as a defensive seat come from this period. In the following centuries, the castle was expanded and rebuilt. One of the owners was the bishop of Šternberk, who decorated the chapel. The castle is large and richly decorated in various styles, from Gothic to Art Nouveau. The lords of Dubá and Lipá made renaissance modifications after a fire that destroyed part of the castle. They also dealt with the castle grounds, where administrative and farm buildings were built. Until 1945, the castle was owned by the Liechtensteins, who turned the dilapidated castle into a luxurious residence and established a new park. The castle was expropriated and later returned to its current owner.

Sternberk also attracts treasure hunters
It is said that there is a hidden treasure in the rock near the castle. According to legend, he was found in a crack by a farmer who was taken by the devil for this discovery. The farmer never returned to the village. At the place where the farmer was resting at the time, the rock is said to open on Good Friday, the treasure will appear and the golden ducats will be poured into the river. You can try your luck and search for the treasure.
