Trips in the Jeseníky Mountains
The Jeseníky Protected Landscape Area is located in the Hrubý Jeseník Mountains on the border of Silesia and North Moravia. Its unspoilt landscape entwined with ancient legends offers a number of natural and cultural beauties, as well as one of the healthiest atmospheres that you can breathe in our country. Well-marked hiking trails, cycling circuits and nature trails take you through the area. Every day you will discover endless possibilities for trips suitable for families with children.
You can enjoy the Jeseníky Mountains in the palm of your hand on the 1491 m high Praděd mountain. The peaks of Petrovy Kamena (1446 m), Šerák (1351 m) or Zlatý Chlum (875 m) also offer beautiful views. You can go for remarkable rock formations such as the Devil's Stones and Roland's Stone. Not to be missed is the Na Pomezí Cave, the largest cave complex in the Czech Republic with a unique stalactite decoration. The unique ecosystem is represented by the Rejvíz peat bog and the nearby Moss Lakes or the romantic Bílá Opava valley. Mountain wells and waterfalls act like beads in the landscape - don't miss the cascading Vysoký waterfall and Rešovské waterfalls in the canyon of the Huntava river.
There are also opportunities for unusual swimming - the Jeseníky Mountains are a region of mineral springs. You can be pampered with therapeutic procedures in the spas Karlova Studánka, Dolní Lipová or Jeseník and enjoy relaxation and water fun in the thermal springs and swimming pools of Velké Losiny.
Likewise, the Jeseníky Mountains are rich in castles and chateaux, among which the late Gothic Sovinec Castle, Kolštejn Chateau or the most valuable Renaissance monument in Moravia and the site of witch trials - the Velké Losiny Chateau - stand out. You can also choose from a number of ruins, such as Koberštejn. There is also a charming folk architecture in the form of wooden churches and log cabins.
In time, you will also be transported by interesting museums: the open-air museum Zlatorudné mlýny will present the history of gold mining and the Velké Losiny paper mill the traditional production of handmade paper. Children will surely enjoy Praděd's gallery with hundreds of carved wooden sculptures. The technical monuments of the Jeseníky Mountains include various lookout towers and border war fortifications. A unique building is the water reservoir of the Dlouhé Stráně pumped storage power plant, our highest (artificial) lake.
The Jeseníky Mountains are also attractive in winter, as it offers some of the best snow conditions in the Czech Republic. You can enjoy skiing in the Červenohorské sedlo ski resort, the Ovčárna pod Pradědem or Ramzová mountain resorts; cross-country skiing is attracted, for example, by the breathtaking ridge route Jesenická magistrála.
