Trips Eastern Bohemia
Eastern Bohemia invites you to wander through its historic towns, castles and chateaux, unique rock formations, romantic valleys and mountains. It is no wonder that this region also inspired a number of creative personalities - Bedřich Smetana, Bohuslav Martinů and Božena Němcová lived here.
One of the biggest natural attractions of Eastern Bohemia is the labyrinth of sandstone towns in the nature reserves Adršpaško-Teplické skály and Broumovské stěny. The Krkonoše Mountains are an inexhaustible source of hiking tours. The destination of the trip can be Sněžka, the source of the Elbe, Černohorská rašeliniště, botanically valuable Kotelní jámy, Pančavský and Mumlavský waterfalls or a plate of Krkonoše sour and blueberry dumplings at the mountain hut.
Fans of hiking will also find paradise in the Eagle Mountains, where they can climb the highest peak Velká Deštná or walk along the ridge and enjoy the view of the Czech-Polish border. However, views of the beautiful landscape are also provided by smaller hills and lookout towers scattered throughout the region, such as Štěpánka, Vrbice, Terezka, Andrlův Chlum, Osičina or Klepáč on Králický Sněžník. You can also easily cycle through Eastern Bohemia thanks to well-arranged cycle paths.
Pleasant trips include a visit to historic settlements such as the Litomyšl (UNESCO) city monument reserve, Nové Město nad Metují and Josefov, where you can explore the underground of the military fortress. Also interesting is Broumov with a Benedictine monastery, Náchod with a bear moat in the castle or eg Rychnov nad Kněžnou.
The most beautiful castles in Eastern Bohemia include the Rococo Nové Hrady, the Renaissance gem Litomyšl inscribed on the UNESCO list, the Empire-style Nový Zámek, Opočno, Slatiňany, Hrádek u Nechanic, Karlova Koruna and Doudeby. A tip for a trip combined with a pleasant walk is the unique Bethlehem Forest belonging to the Baroque complex in Kuks and the picturesque Babiččino údolí near Ratibořice.
East Bohemian castles are also worth a visit: Kunětická Hora known as Rumburak Castle, architecturally remarkable Svojanov, Litice nad Orlicí on a rocky promontory, Pecka Castle rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau or the ruins of Potštejn and Košumberk castles.
You can take a family trip on a safari in the Dvůr Králové ZOO, to the prehistoric Všestary archeopark or to the Tongo amusement park in Hradec Králové. An experience not only for children is a walk along the Treetop Trail in Janské Lázně. With children, you can also bet on the winner of the race in Pardubice or "peel the gingerbread" in the Gingerbread Cottage Museum.
Enjoy swimming and water sports at the Rozkoš reservoir, the Pastviny dam, the Seč dam or in numerous natural swimming pools. The largest aqua park in Eastern Bohemia can be found in Pardubice.
