Chateau Nová Ves u Chotěboře

To the northwest of Chotěboř lies Nová Ves, a village founded in 1288 by Mstislav, a knight from Chlumek Castle near Čáslav. Historical sources do not mention the manor, only a large estate is mentioned. In 1709, however, the farm was bought by Albrecht Kapoun from Zubří and Svojkov, who began construction of the chateau in the village.

From 1835, the manor and the castle passed into the hands of the Berger family, and in 1873 Baron Mayran, who had the old castle demolished and a new one built directly in its place. Only the garden house from the building of the original chateau has been preserved. The construction followed the plans made by the Viennese builder, who brought his workers with him, and lasted only five months.

After Baron Mayran died in 1894, the new owners of the local chateau became Ing. Alois Mixa and his wife Anna (nee Vondráčková), who originated in one of the Uhbararon families in the Ostrava region. Both older daughters, Jarmila Šťastná and Terezie Koséová, had artistic talents and studied at a private school of sculpture and painting in Prague. Also thanks to them, the chateau in Nová Ves near Chotěboř gathered a lot of guests and acquaintances from the artistic circles who invited here.
