Andrlův chlum lookout tower near Ústí nad Orlicí

The Andrlův chlum lookout tower is located about 3 km south-east of Ústí nad Orlicí. It is situated at an altitude of 559 meters above sea level and its total height is 52 meters. After climbing 183 steps, you will have a beautiful view of the Eagle Mountains, the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and, with good visibility, the Giant Mountains, Iron Mountains and Jeseníky Mountains.

You can easily get to the lookout tower by a road leading from Ústí nad Orlicí to the village of Sloupnice, from which a turn leads directly to the lookout tower. The road continues to wind about 1 km straight to the lookout tower, where it is possible to park. If you decide to walk, the easiest way from Ústí nad Orlicí is along the green tourist sign.

The iron lookout tower, which you will find today at Andrlov chlum, was preceded by two lookout structures. The first of them measured 30 meters and stood here from 1905 until 1918, when it was destroyed by fire.


The construction of the second lookout tower was preceded by the establishment of a nearby tourist cottage Hvězda or Janderova chata. The second tower stood here from 1941 until the 1960s.


The current steel mast was inaugurated on May 19, 1996. Its total height is 52 meters, while the viewing platform, which is accessible to the public, is located at a height of 35 meters. The observation tower was designed by Ing. Janota and was established on the initiative of the association "Andrlův Chlum".


Opening hours vary according to the season. From March to October, the lookout tower is open every day except Monday from 10 am to 5 pm. From November to February it is only open on weekends.

The surrounding area offers many cultural attractions. The town of Ústí nad Orlicí in the immediate vicinity of Andrlov Chlum is worth seeing. About 15 km north you will find the castle and chateau Potštejn. In the opposite direction, approximately at the same distance from Ústí nad Orlicí, lies the historic town of Litomyšl, whose chateau and monastery gardens have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
