Church of the Finding of St. Crosses in Litomysl
Piarist Church of the Finding of St. Kříže was built in Litomyšl on the site of a small church. The initiator of the construction, which began in 1714, was František Václav of Trautmannsdorf and was led by the architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi. From 1720, the building was taken over by František Maxmilián Kaňka, who took care of the facades and probably also the interior. The construction was completed in 1922.

The Piarists were introduced to Litomyšl in 1640 by Frebonia of Pernštejn. It was an educational code, which aims to educate especially poorer children. A Piarist grammar school was opened in Litomyšl in 1644, and at that time three wings of a school with a Piarist dormitory and a small church were built, existing in the places where the church is located today. The complex of buildings already included the garden at that time, which is now part of the Monastery Gardens.
Beginning of the construction of the Church of the Finding of St. The cross dates back to 1714. František Václav of Trautmansdorf entrusted it to the architect Giovanni Battista Alliprandi, who is also buried in the local provost's church. After Alliprandi died, František Maxmilián Kaňka took over the construction. In 1719 the construction of the school was completed, on the site of which today we find a gallery and a museum, and in 1722 the construction of the church was completed.
The interior of the church and its decoration is the work of many important personalities. Matthias Bernard Braun is the author of the statues of the four evangelists in the transept and the statues of St. Wenceslas and St. Prokop in the facade of the church. The vault of the dome is the work of Václav Jindřich Nosk and the painting on the main altar was painted by Trevisiani.
Church of the Finding of St. The cross is one of the most important Baroque buildings not only in Litomyšl, but also in the whole region. However, it is currently inaccessible to the public.
