Interesting facts Opočno Castle

In 1495, they became the owners of the Trčková z Lípy estate and underwent modifications, and later a Renaissance chateau was built. This happened in the years 1560 - 1567. The Italian builders took care of building the seat. A very nice arcaded courtyard is enclosed on three sides by a three-winged building. The open side has a panoramic terrace with beautiful views of the surroundings. Improvements also came in 1600, when a ballroom, a chapel and a one-storey summer house were built.

At the end of the 17th century, the chateau was hit by a fire and building alterations were carried out in 1716 in the Baroque style. In later years, there were also empire adjustments. Significant historical and political events took place in Opočno, but also serf rebellions took place. In 1813, representatives of the anti-Napoleonic coalition met here. In 1628, the Opočno chateau figured as the focus of a peasant uprising.

After 1948, the castle belonged to the state and its interiors were opened to the public. In 2003, it was decided to return the castle to Opočno Kristýna and Jeroným Colloredo-Mansfeld, their family being the last local private owners. However, they did not rejoice for long, because in 2005 a decision was issued to repeal this decision. Since 2007, the castle is again owned by the state and you can come and see the furnished interiors. In the exhibitions you will discover American and African ethnographic collections, a picture gallery of works by Italian artists, a chateau library, an oriental armory with an extensive collection of weapons, engravings.
