Interesting facts Castle Ruin of Brandýs nad Orlicí

The castle in Brandýs nad Orlicí was founded by Jindřich of Prostibor in 1289 and belonged to the lords of Brandýs until 1323, when historical springs are silent for a few years and the castle is mentioned again in connection with 1360 and the new owner Jan of Boskovice. . This family owned the local castle until the Hussite wars, and between 1429 and 1431 it was owned by Smil Holický of Šternberk.

From the first half of the 15th century, Brandýs Castle belonged to the Kost family from Postupice, who, among other things, also owned the castle in Litomyšl for some time. This family in Brandýs improved the fortifications of the castle and in 1506 they sold their estate to Vilém of Pernštejn. However, he did not show any special interest in the castle and perhaps even had it destroyed. In 1544, the Brandýs Castle was bought again by the Kostkovás of Postupice and in 1553 they contributed to its restoration, specifically Bohuš Kostka of Postupice, to whom even the rebuilt castle did not fully suit, so he had a castle built in the castle grounds.

The other owners of the Brandýs estate were the Žerotín family, who owned the castle between 1559 and 1636, but did not pay much attention to it, so it was abandoned from 1632.

Unfortunately, no castle interiors have been preserved to date, except for the palace cellars. Only torsos of walls, embankments, ditches have been preserved, and a new access road was built a few years ago.
