Interesting facts Lookout tower near Chlum near Hradec Králové

The local iron lookout tower serves both for tourists and as a transmitter for the mobile operator. It is located above the village Chlum, directly on a hill near the village Všestary, about 8 km northwest of Hradec Králové.

The lookout tower is located at an altitude of 334 meters. Its total height is 55.6 meters. A total of 182 steps will take you to the viewing platform, after which you will have a beautiful view of the Eagle Mountains, the Giant Mountains, the city of Hradec Králové, Kunětická Mountain and the Iron Mountains.

The lookout tower can be seen from a distance, so access to it is quite easy. In addition, it is located near the road connecting Hradec Králové and Jičín, specifically at the settlement Chlum.

The lookout tower is open from April to the end of October every day except Monday from 9 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 5 pm. It is closed from November to the end of March, but it is possible to make an appointment by phone. The opening hours of the battle museum are the same as at the lookout tower.

The battle of the Prussian-Austrian war took place near the settlement of Chlum in 1866. It is reminded by the number of monuments and mounds in the area and, last but not least, the local battle museum.

The local lookout tower has stood here since 1998 and is the second lookout tower to stand here. It was officially opened to tourists on July 3, 1999.

The predecessor of this lookout tower was also made of iron and has stood here since 1899. It was 25 meters high and was created with the financial support of the Central Association for the Preservation of Monuments from the 1866 war.

The first lookout tower stood here for a total of one century. However, on 20 April 1999 it had to be dismantled due to poor technical condition. The lookout tower is currently operated by the Museum of Eastern Bohemia in Hradec Králové.
