Výrov (ruin)

Krčín - the predecessor of today's Nové Město nad Metují. The place with which the connecting year is 1403. It is possible that the second seat nearby - Výrov Castle - is also connected with it. In any case, the first written mention of it comes from 1484, when the homestead was owned by Jan Černčický of Kácov.

Interesting facts Výrov (ruin)

In some sources the castle is listed as desolate as early as 1529, in other years it was still in 1541 considered a prison of the most serious criminals. But the truth is that he could have been deserted at that time. What does a convict need? Just a piece of bread and water. People no longer had to live here at all.

The founder of the seat is also unknown. Only rumors survived. One of them speaks of a hidden treasure of great value. But what did not happen in 1997? Part of the treasure was probably found. It provided silver coins from the time of John of Luxembourg and Charles IV. And then there are the stories!

And what's left of today's castle? Quite quite high walls built into a square, probably a former palace. There are openings in them, which probably indicate the wooden inner floors. The homestead was built near a steep cliff, which was a guarantee of protection from an external enemy. The rest of the building was then protected by a deep moat cut into the rock.

You can see everything when you drive a little above the city towards Slavoňov and after about 1 km turn sharply left from the road to the forest road. Then it is a few tens of meters to the ruins. It is worth mentioning Juránek's viewpoint, from which you will see in all its beauty our "Czech Bethlehem", as Nové Město nad Metují is called. There is a lot of beauty all around us, just to have your eyes open.
