Interesting facts Cave On The Border

Na Pomezí Caves were discovered in the years 1934 - 1936 thanks to marble mining in the nearby Havránek quarry. In 1936, an extensive Rasovna cave was discovered, which is 70 m deep. However, because it was freely accessible, its stalactite decoration was considerably damaged by vandals. Other smaller caves Netopýrka, Komínová or Liščí díra follow the Rasovna. The whole complex was opened in 1950. In the years 2004 - 2005, an extensive reconstruction was carried out, thanks to which the sidewalks were restored, the electrical installation was changed and the soil was removed from the side corridors.

The whole complex reaches a length of 1320 m, of which 450 m is modified and 390 m is open to the public.

Other spaces cannot be accessed due to the great fragmentation and complexity of the terrain.
The cave comes from a karst area created in a massif of crystalline limestone of Devonian age. It was formed due to the corrosive and erosive activity of the water that seeped here. It is characterized by long, narrow and high corridors, which extend into larger domes. Here you can find rich stalactite decoration, specifically stalactites, stalagmites, sinter waterfalls, curtains, ponds with cave pearls and small straws. The largest stalagmite is the Lighthouse, which measures 2.5 m. Massive sinter inlets and large heart-shaped stalactites are typical for the Pomezí caves. Since 1965, karst caves with stalactite decoration have been a national natural monument. The underground has a constant temperature of 7.7 ° C and humidity of 99%.

Non-native spruce forest grows on the territory of the natural monument, but also endangered species of plants. The Na Pomezí cave was chosen by the small horseshoe bat or the large bat. Spiders are also doing well here.
