The lookout tower on the hill of Mackova hora is one of the most numerous lookout towers that were opened in 2001. The grand opening of this lookout tower took place on May 5, 2001.

At first glance, the lookout tower will impress everyone with its non-traditional appearance. It was the very first of its kind in the Czech Republic. Similar types originated later, for example at Lhotka (Uherský Brod) or in Záboří near Blatná, etc.
The construction of the lookout tower took place in October and November 2000. The original intention was to build a classic four-sided lattice tower, but this design was later rejected and replaced by a much more original one. Ing. Janata from Excon designed a tubular mast, which is wrapped in a staircase.

The lookout tower was formerly operated by the T.G. Masaryk Museum in Rakovník, for the entire period from its opening until June 30, 2007. At that time, problems arose due to the financing of the lookout tower. Therefore, on September 8 of the same year, the lookout tower was closed. After that, however, Nové Strašecí took over its operation and the viewpoint is open to tourists again.
