Interesting facts Castle Týnec nad Sázavou

Probably already in the 11th century a parish sanctuary was built here in the form of a Romanesque rotunda, which has been preserved to this day and forms the oldest part of the castle. From the first half of the 13th century, when the Přemyslids had a royal castle built here, the rotunda served as a castle chapel. The historical sources mention the castle for the first time in connection with the year 1318, when it was already owned by Oldřich, the ancestor of the Medks of Valdek. The descendants of Oldřich held the castle until the second half of the 15th century.

In 1498, Litvín of Klinštejn was the owner of the castle, followed by his daughter Ludmila of Klinštejn. In 1544, the castle was sold to Bernard Barchance of Baršov, whose descendants in the women's line owned the castle until 1607. At that time, it was bought by Mr. Hodějovský of Hodějovský of Hodějov, who lost it in connection with the estate uprising, in which he actively participated. After that, the castle in Týnec nad Sázavou was owned by Albrecht of Valdštejn, who sold it to Pavel Michn of Vacínov in 1623.

At the beginning of the century, the castle ceased to serve as a residence and in 1654 it was caught in a fire. The castle received at least partial repairs during the following century, in 1765, when the then owner Marie Anna of Vrtba had one of the castle palaces renovated for the purpose of operating a stoneware manufactory, which was opened in 1793. The manufactory was founded by František Count of Vrtba and subordinated to it. and other castle premises.

Přemyslid Castle has an oval shape and part of the area is the already mentioned rotunda, to which a square bergfrit and a palace join. The courtyard of the palace, which now houses a small museum, was built during the 14th century, when the castle was owned by Oldřich's descendants. During the 15th century, the defensive elements of the castle were added.
