Interesting facts Lookout tower on Kožich near Řenče

The iron lookout tower has been standing on Kožich Hill since December 2007. It is located at an altitude of 584 meters, approximately 20 km south-east of Pilsen.

Its total height is 35 meters and the viewing platform is located at a height of 24 meters above the ground. 120 steps lead to it and it offers a wonderful view of Šumava, Rožmitál, Zelená Hora near Nepomuk, Brdy or Přeštice.

If you leave Libákovice, turn in them from the red sign towards the football field (in the direction from Letin it is to the right and in the direction from Netunice to the left). After the patch, turn left at the crossroads and take the stony path, which is not marked and leads to the lookout tower.

The lookout tower is open daily without restrictions.

From the Kožich hill there is a beautiful view of the surrounding landscape, which was already noticed by our ancestors in 1865, when a lookout point was built here, which consisted of four meters high transversely connected four columns. In the middle was the main point with a base for a board, which was used for a measuring instrument. However, this "prospect" was eventually destroyed by the weather and dismantled.

Another triangulation station was established in Kožich in 1934. Its height was 23 meters and its construction consisted of 4 columns with a square base. On the first floor there was a small table and two chairs. The building was located above a rock - a huge stone, which was covered with moss on one side and in the middle was equipped with a granite stone, which served the surveyors.

After 196, this area was used by the army. A bunker and launch pads were built here. Over time, this prospect was destroyed and only the triangulation stone was preserved. In 2005, Vodafone built its base station in Kožich. It is a metal mast. At present, the village of Řenče takes care of the operation of the lookout tower.
