Interesting facts Castle Ledeč nad Sázavou

The original owners were the lords of Ledče, who joined the Hussite movement. In 1440, the Ledečtí estate from Říčany was acquired. In 1509, however, they went through a tragic event here, when the ceiling of the palace collapsed and two sons and the wife of Burian Ledečský died. In the following period, the owners of the estate changed, among others Meziříčští of Lomnice, Trčková of Lípa (their property was confiscated for participating in the Wallenstein conspiracy), Lobkowicz, Thunová, Věžníková.

The estate was in decline and considerable indebtedness when Ignatius of Koch decided to sell it in 1753. It was bought by Empress Maria Theresa and subsequently donated to the Institute of Poor Noblewomen, to which it belonged until it was taken over by the state after the first land reform. Meanwhile, the castle was hit by a large fire in 1879, which could not be extinguished for three whole days. This event was reflected in the appearance of the building - it was never like the original again. From 1951, the state handed over the castle to the Czechoslovak state forests. The castle has been owned by a private owner since the 1990s.

You can come and see the museum exhibits focusing on the history of the city, numismatics, weapons, crafts, ethnography and archeology. The museum is located on the ground floor of the Small Palace. Interesting exhibits include, for example, glass products, a collection of weapons by the knight Josef Štangler of Horka, guild monuments, clocks, paper money and coins. In the main tourist season, climb 111 steps to the tower and enjoy the beautiful view of Posázaví. Labels for each window tell you exactly where you are looking.
