Lipnice nad Sázavou castle

Are you tempted to explore the surroundings of the Sázava River? Head to Lipnice nad Sázavou, where a huge aristocratic castle has stood since the beginning of the 14th century. Lipnice Castle was built around 1310 and the then owners were one branch of the Ronovce family. Later, it was in the possession of kings for some time. In 1376, Lipnice was stopped by the king to the lords of Kunštát and they sold it to the lords of Landštejn in three years.

Interesting facts Lipnice nad Sázavou castle

In the following period, several important owners changed hands on the estate, including Čeněk of Vartenberk, Governor Jan Smil of Křemže, Trčková of Lípa, Thurnová and the Burgundian nobleman Matouš Vernier de Rougemont.

Several important events took place at Lipnice Castle. One of them was the ordination of the first Hussite priests in our country, it happened in 1417 in the castle chapel of St. Lawrence. The Trček family from Lípa took care of the expansion of the castle in the 16th century and also of its late Gothic reconstruction. The Counts of Thurn then modified the building in the Renaissance style.

The decline of the manor began with the occupation of the castle by Swedish troops in 1645. The castle was conquered in 1646 by the imperial army. The way back to the top never happened again. Although the owners invested in the restoration of the estate, they borrowed a lot. From the 18th century, the castle fell into disrepair and the destruction was completed by a catastrophe in the form of a fire. Only the ruins remained. In the 20th century, the castle became the property of the state and underwent several reconstructions.

You will walk through a fascinating example of medieval architecture. You will see a deep well, a former prison, a banquet hall, a cellar, an armory and an archeological exposition. The sightseeing route is made special by information panels and you will also receive a plan of the castle and printed information so that you do not get lost during the circuit.
