Nelahozeves chateau

Look forward to a tour of Nelahozeves Castle, as it is a pure Renaissance style of construction. You can find the chateau on the left bank of the Vltava and the famous Czech composer Antonín Dvořák was born in the local village. The three-winged chateau was built by Florián Grispek from Griesbach and his son Blažej continued the construction.

Interesting facts Nelahozeves chateau

The looted chateau was bought by the Lobkowicz family during the Thirty Years' War, but they did not undertake extensive repairs until 1910. After the liberation, the chateau was expropriated by the state and the Roudnice branch of the Lobkovic family was returned in the 1990s.

What will you see at the castle? In front of the chateau complex, notice two buildings where there used to be stables and apartments for grooms. You can get to the courtyard over a stone bridge, which in earlier times dammed a moat. Right in front of the entrance gate you will see cannons and then a courtyard surrounded by arcades. During the circuit at the castle you will get acquainted with the aristocratic interiors of the Lobkowicz family. You will look into twelve halls showing the life of the then nobility. You will not miss the music and smoking room, the men's and women's bedrooms, the family chapel and the library with exhibited pieces from the Roudnice Lobkowicz Library. You can view a truly extensive collection of Spanish paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries. there is rare furniture, halls focused on hunting and hunting in the area and an exhibition with firearms, antlers and trophies. Furniture made of antlers also looks very nice. Your curiosity about what the family members probably looked like will be calmed by the family portrait gallery.

After a tour of the castle, you can go to the birthplace of Antonín Dvořák in the village of Nelahozeves, which is located opposite the church of St. Andrew. The Antonín Dvořák Museum is installed inside. As the chateau is open all year round, feel free to treat yourself to a tour even during the winter, when most similar buildings are closed to tourists.
