Interesting facts Church of St. Jakub Větší in Červený Kostelec

The church was originally Gothic from the 14th century. At this time it is remembered as a parish, but temporarily belonged to the 17th century Náchod. As usual, and we know countless such disasters from history, this gem was also engulfed in fire. It took place in 1591, but the restoration did not take place until the second half of the 17th century. If you look at the whole building, you will not miss the fact that the important builder K. I. Dientzenhofer contributed to its present appearance, or rather he was present when the Hradec Králové artist František Kermer dressed him in a baroque garb.

Dientzenhofer originally intended to highlight the richly decorated façade of the church with two tall Baroque towers built outside the church building. In the end, only one was delivered, although the foundations were laid for both. Who knows why this plan came to naught. The church monument boasts two sculptures by the staircase. It is about St. Ludmila and St. Wenceslas. Both are the work of the Red Church carver and sculptor Břetislav Kafka, who is also buried in the local cemetery.

The town of Červený Kostelec is a beautiful stop after East Bohemian monuments. Don't forget him and drive to the nearby Hronov Alois Jirásek. Our history comes to life in them thanks to those who have not forgotten that we must still remember the past. Only in this way can we at least partially understand our present.
