Baroque chapel in Lipky Rymarov

The branch church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary, called the V Lipkách Chapel, is the most valuable historical monument of contemporary Rýmařov, whose significance far exceeds the regional level. The Chapel in Lipky, as the Catholic shrine has been called since time immemorial, is rightly considered a pearl of the North Moravian Baroque.

Interesting facts Baroque chapel in Lipky Rymarov

The author of the project and the builder of the chapel was Friedrich Höβler, a master builder from Rýmařov, the grandfather of the first known Rýmařov chronicler, Jan Josef Langer (1729 - 1812). As early as October 1, 1710, he began construction on an unusually large oval floor plan. Three years later, in 1713, the builder completed the rough construction. The author of the frescoes in the V Lipkách chapel is the Olomouc painter Ferdinand Naboth. The theme of his work was the illustration of verses of the well-known and then very frequent prayer to the Virgin Mary Salve Regina (Hail Queen). He managed the design almost completely, but the work had been causing a noticeable deterioration in the health of the sick man for a long time, so he had to interrupt the work for good. Fortunately, just before his death, Naboth accepted Jan Kryštof Handke, a hitherto unknown one, who knew the environment of the Rýmařov region well - he was born in 1694 in Janovice. Handke's only fresco from 1715 is above the main entrance, its concept, different monumental composition and difference in color are fundamentally different from Naboth's works.

The chapel was very fortunate that during its entire existence it was threatened by only one fire in 1883, which hit only the shingle roof and destroyed the older onion baroque bell tower.
