Kudlich's lookout tower on Strážiště u Úvalna is located about 20 km to the northeast of Bruntál. It is a stone building with a total height of 22 m.


After climbing 130 steps, you will get a magical view of the Beskydy Mountains, Opava region and Nízký Jeseník. All this from an altitude of 395 meters.


The best way to get to the lookout tower is from the village of Úvalno to the northwest. The road leads to the parking lot under the lookout tower, where it is possible to park. If you want to come here on foot from Úvalno, use the green tourist sign.

The original lookout tower was built in honor of Hans Kudlich, a native of Úvalno, a member of the then Reichstag, who contributed to the abolition of robots in 1848. It was written in 1913 and the lookout tower was built by the German population. The ground floor of the lookout tower serves as the mausoleum of this great from Úvalno; there are also his remains, which were brought here from America in 1923.


The lookout tower was built by Julia Lundwall's Opava company. It consists of granite blocks, reaches a height of 22 meters and the viewing platform is located at a height of 18 meters. The lookout tower was ceremoniously opened on September 21, 1913 and immediately became a permanent destination for excursionists. Since the 1990s, you would even find it in the emblem of the village of Úvalno.


The tower underwent extensive reconstruction in 2000. During it, it received electrical installations, external lighting and static security. The reconstruction cost almost 4 million crowns and was financed by the Úvalno Municipal Office, the Ministry of Culture and financial donations from small sponsors. Kudlich's lookout tower was reopened on October 1, 2000.

The opening hours of the lookout tower depend on the time of year.
In March, April and October, the lookout tower is open on weekends and public holidays from 10 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 4 pm.


In May, June and September, it is open on weekends and public holidays from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 13:00 to 17:00.
In July and August you can get here daily except Mondays from 9 am to 12 noon and from 1 pm to 6 pm.
