Interesting facts Observation tower on Milešovka in Český Středohoří

The local brick lookout tower is part of the observatory. It was built in 1904 and is located at an altitude of 837 meters, about 20 km southeast of Teplice.

The total height of the lookout tower is 19.2 meters. The tower has two galleries. The first is located at a height of 10 meters and the second at a height of 17 meters above the ground. A total of 109 steps lead up, which will open you with a view of the town of Most, České Středohoří, Lužické hory, Jizerské hory, Český les, Šumava and, with good visibility, allegedly also the Alps. Panoramic boards located directly on the gallery will help you with orientation.

The easiest way to get to the lookout tower is from the village of Bílka. Near the beginning of the cable car you can park your car and continue on foot for about 2 km along the red tourist sign. However, this route has a significant elevation.

In the tourist season from March to October, it is open from 10:30 to 17:00. From November to February, you can get here from 11:30 until 17:00. However, the lookout tower is only open in fine weather. If you go with a group of more than twenty people, you will also get an explanation.

Milešovka, or Bouřková hora, is the second highest peak in the Bohemian Central Mountains. No road led to its top for a long time, which did not change until 1820, when Anton Weber had a hut with refreshments built for tourists. The hut was gradually expanded to two dining rooms, a couple of cottages, a chapel and a shop. The access roads to the top of Milešovka were also repaired. Weber was also responsible for the construction of a four-meter-high stone lookout tower above the triangulation point. This place was used not only by tourists but also by surveyors, until the end of the 19th century.

In 1905, a fire engulfed the buildings on Milešovka. The restaurant was restored the same year and, in addition, a meteorological observatory began operating here. This created a meteorological station building with a lookout tower. The lookout tower operated until the Second World War. After that, the lookout tower was closed to the public and the observatory was owned by the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences.

Between 1969 and 1997, the peak gradually overgrown and, except for the observatory, the building fell into disrepair. In 1997, the non-profit company Milešovka took care of the revitalization of the peak. It also opened the lower observation deck.
