Interesting facts Toy Museum Brno

The Menin Gate itself is interesting because it is the only exit from the city that has survived to the present day. It has stood in its place sometime since the 13th century, when, together with several other gates, it allowed entry into the town, which was already an important administrative center of Moravia at that time and was also fortified accordingly. Its present architectural form dates from the 15th century, but since the 17th century the gate has lost its significance and was later rebuilt into a residential house. It went through a period of decay and bombing during the war, before it was finally repaired by the city of Brno in the 1980s and intended for museum purposes. At present, since 2010, it serves the collections of historical toys by Mrs. Milada Kollárová.

The exhibition of historical toys contains a wide overview of toys and games from the times of our parents and grandparents, who certainly remember their childhood pleasantly. The museum will then introduce children to the differences between their childhood and children's lives earlier, or perhaps rather show them that there is no such difference, because toys have always been able to give joy and that is always the main thing. The oldest exhibits in the museum, which Mrs. Kollárová managed to acquire, date back to the beginning of the 20th century, from the time of Austria-Hungary. On the contrary, your children may still be playing with the youngest ones. You will definitely be interested in beautiful dolls and houses for them, equipped groceries from the early 20th century, cute teddy bears, kits, toy cars, board games, outdoor games, puppet theaters and other treasures of this beautiful collection, which fill the entire Měnín Gate. Toys are made of all conceivable materials and sometimes you will be surprised by their workmanship.

The museum is open on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, always from 10 am to 6 pm.
