Šebeň

Do you know anything about ants and anthills? If not, but you are interested in this topic, be sure to visit the area near Dobrá Voda, where the natural monument Šebeň is located. This natural monument consists of an area of more than 133 hectares, with beech and fir. The reason for protection here is the huge occurrence of ants of the species Formica polyctena. The number of ants that live here is one of the largest in Central Europe.

The largest set of anthills in the Czech Republic
The huge complex of anthills in the Šebeň natural monument consists of more than 1,100 nests of these forest ants, which belong to specially protected animals. The area was declared a natural monument in 2002. Four years later, an educational trail with large information panels was opened here. If you go here with children, you will greatly appreciate the determination of this trail. The terrain is undemanding and the walk takes about two hours.

The nature trail leads to Šebení
The nature trail passes through the forest in the middle of the natural monument Šebeň. It measures about 3 km and is a completely unique type of nature trail. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it is entirely focused only on ants, especially on the species living here, the common ant. You can buy a Guide to walk along this trail. It contains a map, a description of the area and individual stops. You can then observe the ants along the trail, where you will see numerous anthills.
