Beskydy

The Beskydy Protected Landscape Area was declared on March 5, 1973, covers an area of 1,160 km2 and is thus the largest protected landscape area in the Czech Republic. There are mountain meadows, there are rare Carpathian plants and animals, we can find the original forests of the primeval type and pseudo-karst phenomena.

Delimitation of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area

Its area fills almost the entire Moravian-Silesian Beskydy, part of the Javorníky and most of the Vsetín Hills. The extraordinary value of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area also lies in the extraordinary evidence of the coexistence of people in the mountains. We will find here:

• 7 national nature reserves
• 26 nature reserves
• 24 natural monuments

A total of 71% of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area covers the forest. The altitude of the whole area ranges from 350 m above sea level. (bison) up to 1,323 m.n.m. (Lysa hora).

There are a total of 3 orographic units in the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area:

• Moravian-Silesian Beskdy
• Rožnovské brázdy
• Vsetín Hills

There are two nature trails (Šance and Radegast) and four rivers that flow through the area (Rožnovská Bečva, Ostravice, Morávka and Vsetínská Bečva).

Occurrence of rare animals

Strictly protected animals are recorded here, such as the brown bear or the wolf. You can see other rare animals here, such as the lynx, the river otter, the capercaillie, the black stork or the viper.

The most famous places

The Beskydy Protected Landscape Area is a very attractive area for tourists due to the number of interesting places that can be seen here. There are a huge number of hiking trails and bike paths. The most famous places include:
• Radhošť - a legendary hill with the chapel of St. Cyril and Methodius and the famous statue of the god Radegast
• Lysá hora - the highest peak of the Beskydy Mountains
• Pustevny
• Soláň - a hill with a magical view
• Čantoryje lookout towers, Jurkovič lookout tower or Bílá hora
• The towns of Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Velké Karlovice, Frýdek-Místek or Kunčice pod Ondřejníkem
