Interesting facts Kunisch Mountains

The Kunischmountains was declared a natural monument in December 1991. It is located at an altitude of 520 - 1315 m and has an area of 2076.62 ha. It lies between the peak of Ostrý and Jezerní hora and forms the border ridge ridge in the western part of Šumava. It belongs to the Administration of the National Park and the Protected Landscape Area of Šumava.

The reason for forest protection is groups of trees and stands and natural ecosystems with all their components, plant and animal communities.
In history, the Royal Forest represented a much wider administrative unit and a distinctive border area, stretching from St. Catherine to Stodůlecko and Stašsko. During the reign of Přemysl Otakar II. it was part of the Czech Kingdom and in the 16th century it went through a wave of colonization. The area was inhabited by the so-called Kings, border guards, who had special powers.
