Interesting facts Čeňkova pila Rejštejn

The original real sawmill was named after Čeňek Bubeníček, who built it between 1963 - 70, and which was used to process wood from the Šumava forests. In those days, wood was floated along the Otava River to the Vltava and Prague and tied to rafts.

Čeňek's sawmill also became known thanks to the stay of the composer Bedřich Smetana, who came here in 1867 to visit the owner of the sawmill. Bedřich Smetana even planted a tree here, called Smetana's spruce, which still grows on the right bank of the river Otava.

At present, in the settlement we can find a functional hydroelectric power plant Čeňkova pila and a hydroelectric power plant Vydra, built between 1934 and 1938. Both hydroelectric power plants are still functional important technical monuments. Today, the Vydra power plant houses the museum and exposition "Šumava Energy", which maps the history of hydropower in the Šumava region. There is also a model of the power plant on Black Lake, a model of the Vydra power plant, a model of the Vchynice - Tetov navigation canal or a supply pipeline to the Vydra power plant. If the weather is good, a tour of the engine room in Čeňkov sawmill is also possible.

In the settlement of Čeňkova pila there is a starting point for the Povydří nature trail, but also for the Otava canoeing descent and, of course, also for a number of hiking and cycling trails.

In the place where the original Čeňkova pila once stood, today we find a reconstructed family house where it is possible to stay.
