Ohrada (hunting lodge)

We invite you to a nice hunting lodge Ohrada, which you will find near the chateau Hluboká nad Vltavou. The chateau was founded by Adam František Schwarzenberg in the years 1708 - 1713 and he chose a place between Zvolenovský and Munický ponds. The Baroque style of the chateau was created according to the project of the architect P.I. Bayer, by the way, also rebuilt the castle in Hluboká nad Vltavou. At that time you would find an armory, barns, kennels, a hunting hall, the chapel of St. Eustacha. The ceiling in the chapel was decorated with the motif of the Holy Trinity from 1715, and the chapel was complemented by an altar with the Schwarzenberg coat of arms. The altar painting was painted by painter Pieter van Roy. The whole castle was decorated by famous artists of that time.

A suitable environment was to be created at the Ohrada chateau, where perfume hunts and various hunting festivities could be held. Adam František Schwarzenberg fell victim to an unfortunate accident, and his passion - hunting - was fatal. In 1732, Emperor Charles VI accidentally wounded him on the hunt. In 1842 John Adolf II. here he founded a museum, where he exhibited hunting trophies and stuffed animals, which were still increasing.
The pride of the local exhibits includes the last Czech bear and wolf, antler furniture, a collection of hunting weapons and a world record trophy from 1730.

The museum's permanent exhibitions include the development of hunting with hunting weapons, an ornithological collection and preparations of hunting dogs. The development of forestry brings closer the tools and uniforms of foresters and the exposition The development of fisheries will show you the tools of fishermen and stuffed fish. Other exhibits are devoted to woodworking - development and transport of wood. You can also see The Life of the Forest, Czech Rifle Making and Sallač's Collection of Deer with various trophies.

One of the first museums was opened at the chateau - the opening date was September 15, 1842. The Museum of Forestry, Fishing and Hunting is located near the zoo, focusing mainly on European animals and wildlife living in the temperate Asian zone. However, exotic species are also present in the ZOO.
