Valtice (chateau)

If you were looking for Valtice Castle more than a hundred years ago, you would have to go outside the republic. Valtice belonged to Lower Austria until 1920. A visit to Valtice Castle will certainly be a great experience for you - not for nothing is the castle a national cultural monument and a UNESCO object. The castle was visited by important personalities
You can walk through more than twenty rooms of the castle. The castle rooms are decorated in Rococo and Baroque style, and you can get an idea of ​​how the rich nobility lived at that time. The castle had important visitors and residents - Francis Joseph I, important Liechtenstein princes or Chancellor Metternich. Part of the castle is dedicated to the Knights of the Order of the Golden Fleece in Moravia. In the part of the Žabí sklep park there is an exposition of the law of suffering. Valtice was originally a castle
Valtice Castle dates back to the 12th century, its founders were probably bishops from Passau, or the Austrian family Seefeld. From the 14th century until 1945, Valtice Castle was the property of the Liechtenstein family. During this time it underwent several reconstructions and modifications. In the 16th century, a major reconstruction took place in the Renaissance style, after the damage during the Thirty Years' War, the Baroque reconstruction took place. Other buildings, both chateau and farm, were added, a garden, riding school, theater and more were established. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the landscape around the chateau, the park and the chateau garden were modified. After 1945, Valtice Castle became the property of the state.

The herb garden is also well known
When visiting the castle, be sure to stop by the unique herb garden. The herb garden operates independently of the castle and is open to the public. The tradition of growing medicinal herbs and herbs for the needs of the chateau kitchen dates back to the last century. In addition to the herb beds, you can also see a demonstration of the meadow community, orchards, and relax in the park area designed just for relaxation.
