Pernštejn Castle

Pernštejn is one of the most visited castles in Moravia and you should not miss a visit. It has never been humiliated and conquered since its inception. Thorough defensive walls, location on a high rock and the surrounding forests - you will experience the medieval atmosphere first hand. The castle is massive and representative, you will certainly be interested in the access road with shiny mica stones. The original simple, later Gothic castle was rebuilt and expanded over the centuries, but still retained its impregnability. The built Renaissance palace underwent changes in Baroque, Rococo, Classicism and Romanticism.

To the castle on nature trails
The town of Nedvědice, which lies below Pernštejn, has built several nature trails that lead to the castle and back. On these trails you will get not only information about the castle, but also about its surroundings. During the tour of the castle, you can admire the interiors of individual parts of the castle. The collection pieces differ according to the individual periods that the castle went through in its history. You start the tour in the Gothic period and end in the Romantic period. In the season you can watch a demonstration of the fencing fight here.

Eight centuries of history
The family of lords from Pernštejn, who was the owner of the castle, was one of the important families of the Czech kingdom. Everywhere in the castle you can see the coat of arms of the Pernštejns - a bison's head, which has a sleeve in its nostrils. The Pernštejn family is inextricably linked with the history of the castle until the 19th century. In the period from the 15th to the 17th century, the castle served as a fortress and played its role in the battles for Brno and Moravia. During the Thirty Years' War, he resisted the attack of the Swedish army, and although he was destroyed, he was not conquered. In 1945, the castle became the property of the state.


You can meet a white lady in Pernštejn
Pernštejn Castle is associated with several legends. The white lady who wanders through the corridors of the castle is said to be a vain chambermaid or even a noblewoman. She allegedly spent too much time in the mirror and was convicted of it. So watch out for the castle mirrors - they have since taken away the beauty of those who look at them. You will certainly be interested in the Barborka tower with four different colored windows. These are supposed to symbolize the four seasons.
