State Castle Bečov

If you have a way around Karlovy Vary, stop in the nearby and very picturesque town of Bečov nad Teplou, where the Bečov chateau is located. It is surrounded by the river Teplá, which completes the unmistakable atmosphere of this place.

Interesting facts State Castle Bečov

The medieval Bečov Castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century, and at the end of it, the Boršová brothers from Riesenburg built a magnificent residence from it, which corresponded to their wealth. Many owners took turns on the estate. The Pluh family from Rabštejn was responsible for the extensive repair and extension.

The castle was destroyed twice, once after being recharged by the Hussite army and the second time during the Thirty Years' War. After that, it was never restored and the then owners built a new chateau here in 1753, which you must not miss.

In 1985, the reliquary of St. Maurus was found in the castle chapel, which was hidden here in 1945. Since 2002, visitors can view it permanently in a nearby castle. The reliquary represents the most important Romanesque jewelery monument in our country and, in addition to the coronation jewels, it is also one of the most important Czech monuments.

Today, a tour of the chateau is only possible with a guide, and there are three visitor circuits. Reliquaries of St. There are five rooms dedicated to Maura. You will learn a lot about the history of the castle and chateau, you will hear an engaging story about the discovery of the reliquary. You can also visit the castle interiors

If you also visit the town of Bečov, be sure to visit Zlatý vrch with a TV transmitter, from where you will have a fairytale trip to the surroundings.

In the building on the square you can see the Museum of historic motorcycles and toys. This exhibition is the largest in the whole Czech Republic.
