Interesting facts Přibyslav (chateau)

The original Gothic castle in Přibyslav has stood since the first half of the 13th century, at a time when silver was being mined here. In 1424 the castle was conquered by the Hussites and then had to be restored, however, during the 16th century the castle was deserted, and in 1560 a Renaissance chateau was built in its place by Zachary of Hradec.

During the 18th century, the castle was further expanded and remodeled in the Baroque style. After it was destroyed by fire in 1767, it was repaired and a similar situation followed in 1847. At that time, the repair was already in the spirit of classicism.

Today, the entire castle complex stretches around two rectangular courtyards. The south is surrounded by an arcaded gallery with Tuscan columns and the north is decorated with the coat of arms of the Dietrichstein family. On the west side, the castle is decorated with sgraffito.

The current owner of the Přibyslav chateau is the Association of Firefighters of Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia in Prague, and the building is used as a fire museum. The exhibition focused on the history of fire protection was opened here in 1983 and most of it consists of contemporary and historical fire equipment.

In addition to the fire museum, the chateau also houses the CTIF international cooperation hall and the Přibyslavsko regional exhibition, which includes Žižek's hall, archeological finds and more).

During the siege of the town of Přibyslav in 1424, Jan Žižka of Trocnov died and today, where he died, there is a large stone mound.
