Jičín (chateau)

The castle, also called the Wallenstein Castle, stands on the facade of the square and is its largest and most exhibited building. Its history dates back to the sixteenth century, and even though it was not so great at first, it has been constantly expanding over time. The most changes were made by the Smiřický family, who did not stay here much, and then also by Albrecht of Wallenstein, who originally wanted to make Jičín the capital of his kingdom. Today, the Wallenstein chateau is often visited by tourists, as inside it hides an interesting exposition of the Regional Museum, the Exhibition Hall, the Gallery, the Basic Art School, the Information Center, and also the Radek Pilar Gallery. You will also find an amazing Museum Game. Unfortunately, the castle building needs extensive reconstruction, literally like salt, as it has not been reconstructed for a good 50 years.

Monuments

You will not find too many original exhibits inside the castle. Among the oldest exhibits from the castle facilities is the Empire-style conference room of the three emperors from before 1813 with portraits of monarchs, which was established in connection with the numerous visits of the leaders of the anti-Napoleonic alliance.

Permanent exhibition

Even if you do not find an extensive original exhibition here, you can visit, for example, the exhibition of shooting targets and the exhibition of the work of academic painter Radek Pilar. The local history, archeology and science exposition of the local region is also very interesting. Why? The exhibition is playful, fun and mysterious. As you walk through the vast interiors, you solve puzzles and search for treasure. In connection with the search, you will touch and try many things. There are plastic paintings, a spinning wheel, a mint, a technical functional miniature of a mill and the like.
