In the years 1561 - 1614, the Smiřič family took care of the expansion of the building and its transformation into a Renaissance chateau with sgraffito and arcaded galleries. A completely new wing was created by the fortification wall. As they took part in the uprising, Ferdinand II confiscated them. the property and Náchod were acquired by the Italian nobleman and general Ottavio I. Piccolomini, Duke of Amalfi. He received the castle for his faithful service to the emperor. He continued to renovate the chateau, and since his seat was not very representative, it was rebuilt in the Baroque style between 1650 and 1659 according to the plans of the fashionable Prague builder Carl Lurag. Indoor and outdoor spaces were maintained.
