Skály (castle)

The year is 1393 and Matěj Salava establishes a castle in the rocks. He is a man hungry for property, so it is no wonder that as a passionate Hussite we plunder the monastery in Broumov. From here, he takes his great spoils of war. Time passes and Matěj turns to the opponent's side. Why? Nobody knows for sure. But what is certain is the hereditary explosive soul of his son of the same name. This shortens the time of raids on foreign farms, especially Silesians. However, his actions have unfortunate consequences. The Slezanés go down in history as the conquerors of Skal, which in 1447 were seriously damaged.

Interesting facts Skály (castle)

Since then, a number of owners have changed on the homestead. Among them is a certain Cat, according to which the castle is called Katzenstein for some time. The fact remains, however, that in 1576 it was found desolate and abandoned. Thus, the history of the reign does not read even two hundred years here. But this is usually the case with most medieval less important settlements.

Near this gem, which still shows the remains of masonry and vaulted rooms and from which at a height of 691 meters above sea level you can look into the region with the outlines of the Javorí Mountains, Stone Mountains in Poland, Eagle Mountains and Broumov walls, stands an early Baroque castle from 1666. It is one-storey, with a covered staircase and several arcades. It was built by Bishop Karel Sobek of Bilenberg for the purposes of the Hradec Králové Chapter. Today it houses a restaurant and opposite the building with the possibility of an overnight stay.

Don't miss a trip to other sandstone places. It combines history with the beauty of nature, adorned with grandeur and the tranquility of a clear lake in the immediate vicinity of both homesteads.
