Lemberg Castle

We invite you to discover Lemberk Castle! The current Lemberk chateau shows you several building styles that became part of the building during its existence. The Gothic medieval castle originally belonged to the Markvartice family and until the 14th century it was inhabited by one branch of the family - the lords of Lemberk. Havel took care of the original construction and chose a place at the confluence of two streams - Kněžický and Panenský. The castle was made famous mainly by his wife Zdislava, who became famous during her life. She helped the poor and cured various diseases, which was to be helped by water with healing effects springing under the lock. Even today you can go to see Zdislava's well under the gloriette with eight Tuscan columns and a statue of St. Zdislava. The natural spring has been analyzed and does have some healing effects, although not to the extent that the legend mentions.

Interesting facts Lemberg Castle

The other owners became the lords of Vartemberk and later Berková of Dubá and Jan of Elsnice. Only Jindřich Kurcpach of Trachenberk brought the devastated estate, which underwent an expensive reconstruction and the Gothic appearance gave way to the Renaissance style. The later owners became the Donín family, who, however, lost the chateau and manor in the post-White Mountain period, and the property fell to Albrecht of Wallenstein. Under the Donins, a lot of building modifications were made again - the palace was increased by the second floor, a new entrance tower was built.

Kryštof Rudolf Breda - the son of Wallenstein's first officer, took over the manor in 1660 and until 1680 a Baroque reconstruction took place so that the castle became a dignified representative seat. A black kitchen with an open fireplace, an ice house, the Chapel of the Descent of the Holy Spirit, a representative hall, etc. were built in Lemberk.

The estate was sold in 1726 and the owners became Gallas and Clam - Gallas. After them, the castle was owned by the Lemberk Auersperk family until 1945. The castle was first taken over by the Nazi administration and later the manor was transferred to the state.
