Interesting facts Liberec Botanical Garden

In 1893, it was started by the Liberec Association of Friends of Nature, which acquired land from the city for it. Two years later, the garden was already in public use, but rather served as a garden center to supply the city with greenery. It was even worse during the First World War, when it was more of a vegetable garden, as it was during the Second World War. Better times began to shine in 1954, when the town established relatively decimated remains with the North Bohemian Botanical Garden. In the following years and decades, the garden was improved and new greenhouses were built, although the political commitment of the appointed directors did not have a very good effect on the level of expertise of the garden. After the revolution, the garden began to be further improved and modernized, for example, a new large alpinum was rebuilt. In 1995, it was renamed the Liberec Botanical Garden and the removal of the original greenhouses and the construction of today's complex of nine greenhouse pavilions and nine growing greenhouses also began. The grouping of these greenhouses, designed by the architect Pavel Vaněček, resembles cells in plant tissue or the grouping of quartz crystals.

There are 13 botanical themes in this greenhouse, including a renowned collection of carnivorous plants, tropical plants from the Old and New World, subtropical plants, beautiful orchids, cacti, palm trees and ferns. All exhibitions are created with a sense for the appearance of the original homeland of plants, and of course the outdoor ones, they are completed by ponds, waterfalls, fountains, statues and other garden architecture. In one of the pavilions you will also find freshwater and saltwater aquariums, where you can see species of fish and marine animals that are not normally kept in households. And of course, aquariums also have aquatic plants, such as seaweed. A great attraction of the botanical garden is also a water lily with huge plate-shaped leaves of the Royal Victoria.

The garden is open every day in summer and winter.
