Liebig Manor

Liebieg's chateau is one of the most important buildings in Liberec. The chateau is actually a magnificent family villa, which was built at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries by Baron Theodor Liebieg.

Interesting facts Liebig Manor

The villa can be found in a bend on Jablonecká Street, just a short walk from the Harcovská Dam. It is indeed an exhibition headquarters built in the Art Nouveau style and is a finished architectural gem of Liberec. Thedor Liebig had the chateau built next to his factories. The building with a polygonal bay window has one floor and there is also an imitation of half-timbered masonry. The construction was taken care of by Adolf Bürger and consists of two buildings. The second building was built a little later by architect W. Moldheim. The last third part was built in the last century, it is directed to the Harcov brook, which lines. The last part is the work of another important architect - Richard Wojatscheck. The last building is already influenced by the English style. This building dominates the whole complex.

A part of the chateau complex is also a park, in which an anti-aircraft shelter was built before the war.

After the war, the chateau met the same fate as many other buildings in the Czech Republic. The Liebieg were forced to leave Czechoslovakia and the villa remained abandoned. It was not until the end of the 1970s that a kindergarten was placed in the building, and then the management of the textile company. After the collapse of the textile factory, the chateau was bought by the city, it was thoroughly reconstructed, and today the complex is used for various events, weddings and various companies are based here.

Who was Theodor von Liebig?

He was a baron, businessman, factory owner and grandson of the founder of the family business. Already at the age of 18 he managed 14 companies. And it must be said that he did well because he was one of the most successful and richest entrepreneurs of his time. You will certainly be interested in the fact that this was the first Czech with a car and a driver's license and only the third driver in the entire Habsburg monarchy.
