Sychrov was built on the site of a royal fortress
Sychrov Chateau was built on the site of the original fortress and later a manor house in the 17th century. The original smaller Baroque chateau was bought by the Wallensteins, but because the family seat was elsewhere, the chateau was used mainly for economic purposes and there were no significant changes. In 1820, the chateau became the property of the Rohan family. The chateau became the main seat of the family, which required a major reconstruction and reconstruction, first Empire, later Neo-Gothic. Only domestic craftsmen and artists worked on the reconstruction. The castle park also changed and flourished. After World War II, the castle became the property of the state. It was opened to the public, reconstructed and restored to maintain the status of the castle's greatest glory - the 19th century.

A tour of the castle is challenging and will certainly take you more time. There is something to admire. The original castle interiors were sensitively reconstructed in the spirit of romanticism and neo-Gothic style. During the reconstruction, archive materials as well as the furniture stock were used. The collections of the noble Rohan family were also used. You can walk through the princess's suite, the hunting room and museum of the Rohan family, the portrait gallery, various collections and even the royal suite for the most important guests. The men's rooms, the dining room, the billiards room, the library, the reception room and the tour of the tower will show you the best of life in the 19th century.

Sychrov Castle also has its reputation. The romantic narration of the castle lord's love for a beautiful princess will certainly impress especially sensitive characters. The castle lord, a great good man and a brave man, saved, according to legend, an unknown princess from a carriage pulled by frightened horses. The princess stayed at the chateau for some time, the chateau lord fell in love and a wedding was about to take place. However, the princess also disappeared with a rare gold necklace and no one has ever seen her again.
