Interesting facts Hukvaldy Castle

Hukvaldy Castle was built in the first half of the 13th century by the Hückeswagen family, who came from Germany. In the middle of the 14th century, it was acquired by the bishops of Olomouc, but the unfavorable situation of the diocese led to pledges and the castle often changed owners. In the end, however, he returned to the property of the diocese, thanks to the financial help of the Černohorský brothers from Boskovice. They also participated in significant building modifications. The castle remained in the possession of the diocese until 1948, when it was nationalized. In 1762, he was engulfed in a fire, which was probably caused by a lightning strike on one of the wooden farm buildings. The fire spread and destroyed the whole castle. The decay continued, as villagers began to dismantle the walls. It was not until the 19th century that the most necessary repairs were made. The best preserved building is the chapel of St. Andrew. Because there is excellent acoustics, concerts and performances are often held here. Thanks to its massive fortifications and location, the castle was probably never conquered.

Hukvaldy Castle also inspired Leoš Janáček, a native of a nearby village. He often sat here and even wrote some of his works here.

In addition to the crows, a walled pretzel appears in and around the castle and refused to give his beautiful daughter to the evil lord of Hukvaldy. As punishment, he was walled up in the castle tower. They play the local theater not only about the pretzel. You can see the castle fairs, witches from all over the area come together here, knights perform here, and medieval tournaments are held. It's just alive again.
