Chateau Fryštát

Fryštácký Castle can be found in the most beautiful part of the city, where it dominates Fryštácký Square. The Empire chateau was built on the site of the original wooden Gothic castle, which was founded here by the Piasts in the 13th century. After it burned down, a Renaissance chateau was built here in the 15th century. The lords of Cieszyn made sure that the local town gained a number of exceptional privileges. Unfortunately, the next era was a little sadder. The owners changed frequently and the care of the castle was poor. In 1792 it was bought by the Larich-Mönnich family, another very important Czech family, and it was they who restored the importance of this chateau.
