Nový Dvůr Arboretum

A completely unique park with an area of ​​30 ha, where visitors can admire an extensive collection of trees not only domestic but also foreign, can be found at the chateau in the Arboretum in Nový Dvůr in Opava. Around 7,000 species of plants, herbs and woody plants, their varieties and cultivars grow here. There is also a rich dendrological collection of Trees of the Five Continents, plants of peatlands, heaths, Himalayan plants, trees from China, from the sand dunes of the Baltic, Japan or the Midwest of North America.

Interesting facts Nový Dvůr Arboretum

What makes the arboretum in Nový Dvůr famous is the extensive Rhododendron collection, which is one of the richest in the Czech Republic. As part of the exhibition, you can see the so-called mammoth trees - redwoods, Arizona pines or a healing ginkgo, which remembers the time of dinosaurs.

The arboretum in Nový Dvůr was founded in 1905 and was credited to Quido Riedl, the then owner of the chateau.

The Nový Dvůr Arboretum was founded in 1958 on the site of one of the most dendrologically valuable park buildings in Silesia. At present, the workplace is organizationally integrated into the Silesian Museum, the founder of which is the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

Today, the arboretum also includes a ZOO corner with Kashmiri and Cameroon goats, Vietnamese pigs, domestic sheep, rabbits and hens. Especially for small children, the experience is the possibility of free entry to the enclosure, to feed and pet the animals.
