Interesting facts Klášterec nad Ohří Chateau

Today's chateau is located on the site of a former manor house, which was built here at the beginning of the 16th century by Volf Dětřich Fictum. His grandson then had the building rebuilt into a Renaissance chateau. The construction work was completed in 1590, as evidenced by the year in the emblem of Kryštof Fictum and his wife Voršila located above the portal of the tower. The property of the Fictums was confiscated for participation in the estate uprising and sold. During the Thirty Years' War, the castle and its surroundings were looted and burned by the Swedish army. Therefore, its then owner, Michal Oswald Thun, was forced in the middle of the 17th century to reconstruct and rebuild in the Baroque style. The chateau was given a four-wing layout, a park with a sala terrain and a side arcade corridor was established. In 1784 it burned down for the second time and the construction work during the reconstruction was led by the builder Augusten Gruber. It was last rebuilt in 1856, when it was adapted to the neo-Gothic style. The castle park was also expanded and modified. After the Second World War, valuable renaissance interiors were restored, and Klášterec was already state property. Since then, there has been an exhibition of porcelain, depicting its development from 1792 to modern production from the 20th century.

In addition to the collection of Czech porcelain, there is also Chinese, Japanese, Meissen, Viennese and Nymphenburg porcelain from the 17th to 19th centuries. You can also see a collection of precious stones and children will certainly enjoy the exhibition of puppets in the cellars of the west and south wings of the castle.
